My dear Savitri,

Sorry I did not send your books earlier but I have only had them a week and I wanted to bring them to you next time I visited you, which I hope will not be before too long. Anyway, it was nice having your pretty card of the gorgeous kitten, and your other two letters. [. . .] At the moment, I have the decorators in, and the place is completely upside-down, which is also making me very nervous — rolled-up carpets blocking the hall, and doors off and propped up, blocking everything else. It is terrible, and I have to put it all back and in order. [. . .]

Immediately I received your last letter I sent on your letter to the Greek Consulate with the request that they should contact me if there are any further questions.

I’m glad you got the photocopy of the book OK. Would you like me to send you the book itself — I would dearly love to keep it, but as it means so much to you Savitri, I will let you have it back with pleasure — you have only to let me know. I don’t have the book with me in the office at present, but next time I write I will let us have the exact text of line 1 on page 70.

I am sorry that you aren’t getting any cooked foods — it is very uninteresting only having raw stuff all the time — but why does she dictate what you should eat — you could cook them yourself, just keeping to simple frying or grilling.

No, I haven’t heard again from MK, which isn’t surprising as I haven’t answered his letter yet due to my move and all the things I have had to do at home, and being out working every day plus my home typewriter being out of order. I can’t write private letters which I have to deeply concentrate on in the office here as there is simply too much work to do and if anyone saw me I would get into trouble.

I don’t believe that Jones is “one of us” at all. He might be — up to a point attracted by the politics of NS but doesn’t strike me as having any understanding at all of ANY KIND of spiritual beliefs. To me he’s just a dirty old weak drunkard.

I will ask Herr Rau for the article and booklet by Degrelle that you lent him. Incidentally, he doesn’t have Defiance [1] and has never read it.

I had a birthday card from Diana Hughes — Françoise has been over to see her again.

Must finish now Savitri — all my love, and I will write again soon,
Beryl
