My dear Savitri,

I was pleased to receive your letter, written on 20th April — I didn’t know until you told me what time our Führer had been born.

I am sending you a laxative — I tried to get Agiolax in a flat size which I could send you but they only had big tins which would have been difficult to pack. They recommended the enclosed — a ‘pflanzliches’ mittel — very similar. If you want anything else from Germany let me know.

I also enclose a letter from Madame Remy which is self-explanatory. I would very much like to purchase the brooch from you Savitri as I have always admired it so much — the outstretched arms. If you tell me how much you want for it, I will send you a cheque.

I hope you will be able to get on independent room where you will be able to cook your own food and have a cat, and I can well understand your hating ‘institutions’ and being served with such a lot of unhealthy food — the Germans eat such a lot too — the Führer had intended to change Germany’s eating habits after the war. I, myself, feel most healthy on steamed fish and lightly cooked vegetables. But, like you, I also enjoy chocolate!

Yes, I can well understand your going crazy with these damned people who play silly transistors. I have the same problem with the young man who lives above me and has a dreadfully loud stereo. I had to get the police the other evening. It was so loud I shall be glad to leave here if I get a job in Munich, I have to go there next week for an interview for a job with an accountancy firm, so I hope everything goes off all right.

I hope you have now heard from Françoise, Colin Jordan and Miss Gantry — I had very nice letters from all of them — they were so glad to nave your address (Madame Truchet’s). I also wrote to Herr Rudel so maybe you will also hear from him.

All my love to you, Savitri,
Beryl
