Letter from Beryl Cheetham to Savitri Devi – 6 December 1981

652 words

Frankfurt am Main
6 December 1981

My Dear Savitri,

Thank you for your letter which I received a long time ago, and also for the beautiful picture of the tiger. I send you the Season’s Greetings, together with a couple of cuttings from The Economist which you will no doubt find interesting, and a photograph of yourself which was taken in Austria in about 1968. I have this picture of you in a silver frame on my bureau in my living room under two beautiful pictures of the Hakenkreuz Fahnen.

I hope you are feeling better then you did when you wrote to me. You are a fabulous age Savitri, and I’m sure that I won’t live so long, especially with all the chemicals that the manufacturers use in the production of our food — even fruit and vegetables.

[. . . U]nemployment is fast rising here, as are the prospects of a nuclear war fought in Germany between Russia and America and their respective Communist and International Jewish Financial Capitalists. With this insecurity, there is arising in Germany — as we knew they would — two distinct factions — left and right — and both totally dissatisfied with a so-called democratic Bundesrepublik. Even the liberal democracies themselves are fed up with this materialistic way of life. There is a total dissatisfaction all over Europe with materialism. I am overjoyed about all this unrest, of course.

I saw Denis Pirie over here about a month ago. There are apparently two National Fronts in England now — the original belonging to Martin Webster and the New National Front belonging to John Tyndall who lives in Hove, outside Brighton, is married to the daughter of [illegible] political and has a son. I don’t know anything and hear nothing of either Colin Jordan or Peter Ling except what it says in the cutting I sent. No, I am not hurt any more about Peter Ling — it is all a long time ago — regrettable, but that’s life sometimes.

Yes, I have one German friend who is a good National Socialist, D— F—, who is only 34 and whom I met through Wolfgang Kirchstein — whom I distrust after I took him to visit Hertha Ehlert when I first came here (she told you about him I think as I remember your telling me that she didn’t like him). Because the Verfassungsschutz visited my firm where I worked then, asking about me, and Hertha told me that they had visited her firm also — at the same time. This betrayal could only have come from him, and I have had nothing else to do with him ever since. The Verfassungsschutz still check up on me — after every right-wing action here, I get odd phone calls from very polite people who have the “wrong number,” but who are obviously checking up to see if I am still in residence and not — having had something to do with it — in flight! Did you ever find out what happened to Hertha? I told you she moved from her address and her job in Bad Homburg.

I went to the Tutankhamun exhibition here last year. I was able to buy a vergoldert medallion of Akhnaton worshipping the sun — the sun’s arms outstretched, ending in hands — as on page 109 of your book Joy of the Sun and as in that beautiful very big brooch you have in gold. I fell in love with that when I saw you wearing it and if you ever want to sell it Savitri I would very much like to buy it from you, if you will have it valued and tell me what you want for it. You know that I will wear it and always treasure it.

Well, dear Savitri, I must finish now. I do wish you a very happy Xmas, however you way be spending it — I shall just be spending it here alone, probably watching some television programme!

All my very best love to you, Savitri,
Beryl
